Chairman of Melton Borough Council
Councillor for Wymondham ward
  • Borough Councillors

Malise has represented Wymondham ward l since May 1987. During his time as a Councillor, he served as Mayor of the Borough of Melton during the 1993-94 Civic Year and was Leader of Melton Borough Council for a total of 14 years over this time.
During his time as Leader his three main principles were:
'Look after the finances
Look after the more vulnerable members of our community
If we are going to do something, we should do it well'.

As leader in 2008, when two thirds of the Council Offices were destroyed by fire, he saw through the controversial scheme to build new Council Offices, on a brown field site, by the station. These Offices came in on budget and two months late - because of bad weather. The sale of some the land by the old Council Offices to Sainsbury’s enabled his successor to have a debt free Council with new offices that were designed to incorporate partnership working.
The remaining part of the old offices, now named Phoenix House, is the home of “Me and My Learning” a most constructive award winning team, that helps those who are vulnerable, for whatever reason.
Although as Leader most of his Committee time time was spent Chairing the Policy, Finance and Administration Committee he has served on all Council Committees with the exception of Planning.

"Being a local Councillor" Malise says "involves you in many other activities" and he is locally very much involved with
The Trustee of The Sir John Sedley Educational Foundation.
Church Warden at St. Batholomew’s Church Sproxton - Leading the successful appeal to raise £170,000 to repair the roof after a lead theft.
Chairman of the Sproxton Village Hall Committee
He also attends Parish Council meetings in the ward.

Married to Pamela, they have lived in Sproxton since 1976 and have four daughters and two grandchildren. For 20 years they ran their own manufacturing business.

Leader at Melton Borough for 14 years
