Elected firstly to Rutland County Council 20th July 2017.
Promoted to Cabinet with responsibilities for Sport and Recreation, Culture and the Environment - October 2017. Became Deputy Leader early in 2018.

Graduated as a mechanical engineer from the University of Glasgow, Gordon spent 20 years in medium and heavy manufacturing, suppling engineered products to the oil, chemical and process industries. In a major switch in career he joined Wilkinson Hardware Stores, (“Wilko”), as Chief Executive; where over 17 years he led the company from a turnover of £90m in 1990 to sales of nearly £1.5 billion by 2007.

Following his retirement from “Wilko” he took on a number of non-executive and consultancy roles including Swift Caravans and chairman at 99pStores, Multiyork, and the British Retail Consortium.

Throughout his career, Gordon has been actively involved in community activities, including over 20 years on Parish Councils,  including county and national representation, as well as business support organisations and working with government departments developing policy for the retail sector and local councils.

Gordon says " I have been your Councillor in the Ketton Ward since the 2017 by-election. During the past years I have worked hard on your behalf to find solutions to local issues including flooding, potholes, fly-tripping road markings and parking.

As a local resident and active member of Barrowden Parish Council I have been working hard on the Neighbourhood Plans for Barrowden, Wakerley, as well as Ketton and Tinwell, making sure that your voices are heard about local development.

I am absolutely delighted that you re-elected me to the Ward in May 2019 and I will represent you along side Karen Payne for the next four years campaigning to reduce speeding in our villages to ensure the safety of out children. I believe too, that it is important that all new developments have a proportion of starter homes and social housing in order to keep the young people in the county they grew up in. I will also deliver access to Gigabit capable ultrafast broadband.

I shall continue to be a strong voice for you at County Council"
